It has been nearly 4 months since R & B soul artist Mary J. Blige filed for divorce from Martin “Kendu” Issac, and she is now releasing details of the 12-year marriage, expressing that a lack of respect is the reason it came to a halt.
On Wednesday, November 2016, Blige told Robin Roberts of Good Morning America that
“The breaking point was when [she] kept asking over and over and over again for respect and to be respected. [However], it just seemed like [she] was beating a dead horse and… talking to a wall.”
She continued, “I just wasn’t getting [respect] back, so if I can’t get [it] in the relationship, then I have to move on and save myself. That was the point where I was like, ‘I’m done. I just can’t do it anymore.'”
Despite not sharing any children and having signed a prenuptial agreement, Kendu, who also served as the songwriter’s manager, is suggesting a monthly spousal payment of $129,000. Blige, on the hand, asks that this request is not granted.
Before concluding her conversation with Roberts, Blige warned women who are experiencing a similar situation to “take responsibility [of their business] and stay on top of it.”
