For the second year in a row, CSU’s women’s basketball team notched another conference victory against Georgia College and State University in the first week back to school. Senior Kayla Pryce led the Lakers in scoring with 12 points and 3 rebounds. Pryce was followed by followed by number 22 DaQuenna Moore, who had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

During the first quarter, Clayton State jumped out to a 6 point lead over Georgia College. Going into the second quarter, the Lakers may have been complacent in their lead, allowing Georgia College to trim down the score before halftime.

Coming out of the half, both teams struggled with scoring points. In the fourth quarter, Georgia College surged for a comeback, tying the game for the first time. However, the Laker Ladies persevered to maintain their unbeaten conference record. Number 11 Kennisha Jones- Barrett helped the Lakers save the game and close out. After Jones-Barrett knocked down two critical free throws, the game ended in a nail-biting 52-48 score line.

The next home game was against UNC Pembroke on Monday January 18th at 1:30 pm. The Lakers successfully took their unbeaten record in the Peach Belt Conference to 8-0 against the Braves.
